I have a 94 Grand Cherokee with the factory Infinity Gold AM/FM Cassette
with the factory amplifier located under the driver's side rear seat. The
other day when I turned on the radio I noticed I was getting no sound.
The electric
antennae did not go up and the equalizer on the stereo unit did
not light up. I know that the radio is getting power because the stations
display, the clock works, and I can put cassette tapes in and fast
forward/rewind them. I'm just not getting any sound.
My theory is that the amp has blown a fuse but I can't find the fuse
location. There is no mention of it in the manual. I checked all the fuses
o the panel inside the passenger side door jam as well as the ones inside
the
power distribution thing under the hood. They all look good. I bought a
Hanes manual but it doesn't show an amp in the wiring diagram for the radio.
Where is that sucker? Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for any help. I have a long commute and the silence is getting to
me.

I don't think there is one. It's probably a popped circuit in your amp
or stereo. Have you yanked it out? It's either that or the main ground
for the speakers has been pulled loose. I'm pretty sure they only have
one ground for all speakers these days so it's very possible also.

Power to the amp is probably ok. The key is the power antenna not working.
The same wire that activates the antenna also energizes the amp (like a
switching circuit in a relay). Look for a broken wire or loose connection
or short.
You are right about the Haynes manual. I am finding the electrical section
to be either lacking info, or just plain
wrong.

would also check your ground wires, especially in the amp area:
According to my Alldata Cd, you prolly' have power to the radio, but
there's no power to the amp itself, which also switches power to the
power antenna relay.
There's one connector coming out of the RADIO that supplies juice to
both the power amp and the antenna relay, that's a good place to
start.
The 10 amp fuse is good, else you would have no radio lights like the
other poster noted.
Your
speakers are not grounded, each has 2 leads that run directly to
the amp, no chassis ground to them.
Geez, remember the old days when all you had were 3 wires out?
(Green-left, gray-right, and black, to ground......) Course back then
the speakers sucked, and we used to rob old t.v. speakers and put em'
on the back window shelf.....

heapload of strife. Thanks man.
I am replacing the original Infinity Stereo radio and speakers in my Jeep with aftermarket head unit, speakers and amplifier. When I lift the rear seat up to look at the stock amplifier I see the two white connectors for the speakers plugged into the amplifier. I am simply going to unplug them and take out the stock amplifier and replace it with a new one. I am not using any of the existing wiring. I have all new wiring for the new system. My question is what is the housing that is to the left of the amplifier in the attached photo? It has some wires coming from the amplifier harness going to it and that is why I am asking because if I am unplugging the two white connectors and not using them in the future then this is not staying connected. Also there are two wires going through the sheet metal to underneath the car in the attached photo they are above the amp and have large red and black connectors showing. They are tied into this harness also.
