Introduction

I developed issues with the FOB not functioning right, needing to be close to the vehicle and in certain areas for it to work. Changing the battery was straight forward and restored its function immediately.

    • Here is the FOB for my Jeep. It decided to finally quit. The functionality became less over the last couple of weeks and required frequent attempts to unlock the vehicle etc.

    • Remove the key by moving

    • locking hatch to the left side first.

    • The two halves where the FOB needs to be split are clearly visible

    • Using a plastic opening tool (or finger nail, guitar pick etc.) start at the front of the FOB to separate it

    • Moving the tool along the split line with slight sideways pressure

    • will separate the FOB easily.

    • Here is the cleanly opened FOB

    • Bottom half of the FOB contains the CR2032 coin battery

    • Remove the battery by pulling it out of the holder pushing it gently against the spring contacts.

    • Replace the battery following the polarity with the positive side to the body of the FOB

    • Insert wisdom here.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
