Could somebody please suggest some accommodation ideas close to the North East entrance toYellowstone NP.

I've never stayed there myself, but I've heard good things about the Super 8 in Cooke City. There aren't a lot of options there or in SilverGate, but you can check the TA reviews for more suggestions.
Is there a reason you'll be staying in that area? It makes a fairly long drive for sightseeing to most of the park.
Also, when will you be coming and how long will you be staying?

I stayed in theAlpine Motel because the Super 8 was full. Nice place, clean room, friendly staff. Not fancy though.

Thanks for your replies.
This holiday is still in the planning stage but at the moment I have a feeling we will be in Yellowstone from 21 to the 25 June (driving from the Mt. Rushmore area), then moving down for a few days in the Grand Tetons area for three nights before flying home fromJackson Hole.
I would like to stay inside but after looking at that time of the year quite a lot of dates are booked, some of the accommodation is expensive & some is quite basic! However I am open to suggestions . . . . where would you suggest inside Yellowstone?

PS . . . . theMammoth Hot Springs hotel looks fine, I was looking at their suite rates of $449!!!!

That's a great time of year to visit - you'll see lots of wildlife - many with their newborns. Just be prepared for the unpredictable weather - it will most likely be nice during the day, but you could encounter snow too :-) Either way, the mornings and evenings will be quite cool.
The most central lodging locations in the park are Canyon and the Lake area. I would suggest that you keep calling, as cancellations do occur. The Western cabins at both locations are quite nice - and much cheaper than the suites at Mammoth!Dunraven Lodge at Canyon also gets good reviews. You may want to consider a night or two in the Old Faithful area too. The hotel itself will be expensive, but Snow Lodge has nice accommodations and is quite close to the main attractions there.
Unless you book a suite, you won't find any really upscale lodging in the park, but it's all about the location - and you won't be spending that much time in your room anyway.

We stayed at the Super 8 in Cooke City last August. Our room was huge and clean with a giant deep bathtub. The managers were friendly. Cooke City is a cute but very tiny town and we found the restaurants to be quite overprice.

Really about the only place to stay NE of Yellowstone and still drive into the park for the day would be in (or near) Cooke City. Skyline Guest Ranch (an outfitter and B&B, not really a guest ranch) is a good price.
In the park the five lodging areas are Canyon, Lake, Roosevelt, Mammoth, and Old Faithful. I prefer Lake and OF, but Roosevelt is nearest the NE entrance andLamar Valley is between the two. IMO all of the accommodations in and around Yellowstone are rustic and/or basic. Much nicer lodgings can be found for Grand Teton.

We really enjoyed the Elk Horn Lodge in Cooke City, stayed there for two nights in September. Only 8 rooms, very nice owners. We felt like we experienced this little town and met many of the locals (not that there are that many!)

2X Skyline guest ranch. Like another poster indicated this is not really a ranch, more of a family run B&B and an outfitter business rolled into one. LizJackson runs a great B&B. If you would really like to see YNP, book a backcountry horse ride with them.
