St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a great family-friendly way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The parade will be held on March 17th. This has been a staple for the Greater Des Moines community and is a must watch for anyone in town visiting and locals. The parade will feature all things Irish with lads and lasses strolling through the parade route handing out green beads. The parade will start at Noon but be sure to get there early for the best spots.

Tipsy Crow Tavern

Tipsy Crow Tavern will be serving breakfast at 6 a.m. on St. Patrick’s Day. Party goers can hang out all day and night and listen to three local bands and drink green beer. They have been known to have one of the best patios in the city which also dog friendly. Be sure to drink responsibly and don’t drink and drive.

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is back! The St. Patrick’s Day Parade snakes through Downtown Des Moines and is sponsored by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. The parade starts at 12:00 noon.  The parade route runs from 15th Street to Grand and then east to 8th Street. The parade fills the streets with costumed marchers, Irish step dancers, bagpipes, drum corps, and more.

Here's what you need to know as downtown Des Moines celebrates St. Patrick's Day in 2022.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Thousands are expected to line up along Grand Avenue in downtown Des Moines Thursday for the return of the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

From floats to seas of green apparel, organizers are glad the event is back after it was canceled in 2021 and 2020.

"I'm extremely excited to be back after two years. This hiatus has been a long time coming and we're extremely excited to see our spectators back out," said Tony "T-Bone" Schmid with Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Central Iowa.

The parade starts at noon at 15th and Mulberry St and will end at 8th St.
