Transfer text messages from android to iphone reddit

When you say you have to go between both, what do you mean exactly? Just to go look at the old ones?

I don't necessarily need to constantly reference my old texts all the time. I just feel weird about losing them. If I can import them into iMessage for continuity, great, if not I just need to find the best way to back them up for long term storage.

"SMS Backup" app on android seems to do it but it's saved as a strange file type that Im not comfortable with.

Hey gang

I recently bought an iPhone 11 and wanted to transfer my old text messages from my old Samsung Galaxy S6.

But when I used "Move to iOS' app, only a few outgoing SMS messages transferred. All the incoming texts that I had on my old log did not go through. So only some of the texts transferred but most didnt. (The contacts transferred ok)

If anybody has some other options, I'd appreciate it. I was looking around at some other apps and I see you have to pay for those, which I gladly would if there was a guarantee that they'd work. Are there any free apps to use? Or any workarounds? I see some stuff about using "SMS backup and restore" app, but I'm not really sure how to go about that

Unfortunately the only way is the Move To iOS app, as others have mentioned. You'll need to do a factory reset of the iPhone before you'll get to the option of "move data from Android" where you'll then open up Move To iOS on your Note 7, enter in the code it gives you, and go from there. Be patient and try again if it fails.

Even the Copy My Data app can't handle text message transfers between iOS and Android, and that's the app whose codebase was purchased by Apple and turned into the Move To iOS system. Samsung Smart Switch can pull messages from an iPhone onto a Samsung phone, but not the other way around.

The only way to transfer Android messages to iOs is by transferring data at the iOs setup screen.

You need to backup your iPhone data (because you will very likely need to set it up from scratch later), factory reset the iPhone, and select "Move Data from Android" at the setup screen. On the Android device, download Move to iOs.

IMPORTANT: after downloading the app, turn ON Airplane mode and turn OFF Bluetooth on Android (because the Move to iOs app is VERY buggy, especially at the connection stage). Don't just turn off wifi and mobile data. GO AIRPLANE MODE.

Then follow the app's instructions.

What is the best way to back up my old texts so I can get them on my new to me phone? Can I just switch the sim card to activate the iPhone? It appears both phones use the same size sim. I am on Super LTE if that matters. Currently using a Moto G5+. Pictures and other things are saved to Google Drive & Photos. Haven't decided but I still may use Google on the iPhone. Anything else I should know so I don't lose stuff in the transfer? Talk to me like I know nothing. Not very techy here. Thanks!

The Move to iOS app should help 😉

From Apple’s website:

“Here's what gets transferred: contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, photo albums, files and folders, accessibility settings, display settings, web bookmarks, email accounts and calendars. If they're available on both Google Play and the App Store, some of your free apps will also be transferred. After the transfer has been completed, you can download any free apps that were matched from the App Store.”

I hope I've misunderstood something, but after a couple of hours spent trying to transfer all messages from my OnePlus 6T to the iPhone 13 Mini I'm afraid this is unfortunately true. Is there really no way to transfer messages from an Android device to iOS?! Even having a linked account on a computer, there's no way either? I've been using Signal for almost a year now, so far it's been unbeatable, but this one thing has left me incredibly disappointed.

Has anyone managed to do this with some third-party tools or open-source scripts from GitHub?

My wife and I both upgraded from Samsung Galaxy Notes to the iPhone 13. While setting them up, she attempted the "Move to IOS" option and it moved most things, to include her messages, but the threads won't send her messages. The only way to get them to work is to delete them, which negates the point of transferring them. After seeing this, I chose to set up my phone from scratch and pull my stuff down from Google backups. Now she has her text message threads but to use them she must delete them and I don't have any of my old messages. A few Google searches make it seem near impossible to transfer your messages into iMessage. Is this really the case? I am hoping someone has a solution that does not involve restoring the phone to give "Move to IOS" another shot.

Can you move text messages from Android to iPhone?

If your phone runs on Android 4.3 or a later version, then you can simply use the Move to iOS app for free. It can transfer your messages, Camera Roll data, contacts, bookmarks, and the Google account data. Please note that both the devices should be located nearby to be connected securely.

Why didn't my text messages transfer from my Android to my iPhone?

Restart both of your devices and try again. On your Android device, turn off your cellular data connection. Then try the transfer again." "You might find that only some content transferred and your iOS device ran out of space, or your iOS device might appear full even though the transfer didn't finish.

How do I transfer text messages from Android to iPhone 13?
