Engine Oil Filter are very important to the protection of any engine. The following filters are compatible to the Yamaha OEM oil filter, 5GH-13440-50-00.

Fram: PH6017A
AC-Delco: PF2135
Amsoil: EAOM103
K&N: KN204, KN198, KN303, KN303C
NAPA; 1358, PS1358, 1365
Purolator: ML16817, ML16819
WIX: 51358, 51365

What oil filter do you use and why?

I use a WIX filter. I think it's a good quality filter for the money. I could spend more and get a little better quality but in reality I could use the cheapest fram filter without any ill effects. If your changing your oil often the filter and even oil for that matter becomes less of a worry. Still, I opt to use a WIX filter and Amsoil just for peace of mind I suppose.

I've been using tusk filters from rocky mountain atv, no problems at all. I might use the Bosch 3300 next time, as it fits the 660 and its a very high quality filter.

I use a 3.25 inch filter which holds a little more oil and is easier for me to install since it sticks out more. I change my oil every 25-50 hours filter every 2nd oil change. I don't understand how folks can ride on a single oil change each summer wet clutches do a number on oil viscosity and shear that oil down 1-2 grades in no time.

Recommended Filters - about 2.5 inches long.

All good replies. Especially the list of 3.25" and 2.5" filters. Please correct me if I am wrong, shouldn't all oil filters be handed tighten per all oil filter manufacturer instructions. All the filters I have ever used gave explicit instructions on applying a thin coat of oil to the "o" ring then hand tightening the filter. No need for an oil filter wrench or a socket that must be used for installing a K&N filter.

:rocker:Not one poster has said they use a wrench to "install" a filter.
It's usually 3/4 of a turn after contact with the sealing surface and the filter seal which can be easily done by hand. I always turn the filter back just a hair after snugging it down which makes it easier to remove.

I use Amsoil 10/40 and HifloFiltro HF204 filters. Made in Italy for motorcycles. A high quality filter with European TUV production monitoring. It's a small filter but it's a small engine and it's quality that counts not the size of the filter! I buy on line a case of 10 for $50.

:deal: BTW, many of the previously mentioned filters are automotive filters and not recommended for use on motorcycles. Autos run with much higher oil pressure than motorcycles so auto filters can be too restrictive in oil flow for motorcycles and the filter bypass for motorcycle filters is 7 PSI and in auto filters is usually 15 PSI. Purolator expressly says on their web site not use their automotive filters on motorcycles.

Like many other dealers and manufactures they recommend there own oil. For all we know it is shell, imperial oil, etc. All they want to do is get your hard earned dollars' fill there pockets. I have been using Lucas 10W 40 since new and with over 14 000 km she is still running strong and I will take the grizzly anywhere with out a worry. As long as us use a recommended oil it is like apples and oranges, use what works for you, spend what you want. At the end of the day if you feel like you took care of the Grizz it is a good day for you and the Grizz, keep your air filter clean and change the oil the Grizz will out last you, happy and safe riding, cant wait to go hunting with the Grizz in the morning, I can see a 250 km ride with some beers in the evening, cheers
