So, I was playing a little disc golf in the park today whilst walking my dogs. One a male Schnauzer, the other a female German Shepherd Lab mix. I Conceal carry a G19. And when I'm doing active things where I want some freedom of movement, I place my G19 in a holster in my bag.

The thought struck me today on what the legality of having my firearm attached to the molle of my dog's tac vest.
      What are your thoughts?

Sounds a little too much like a guinea pig situation to me. Might want to consult a lawyer. You'd definitely want to have the dog leashed and the gun most likely completely hidden/covered.

To be fair, I went disc golfing with my G19 recently. A guy I went with that I just met was talking about firearms and my friend mentioned that I carry. He was very surprised how will mine was hidden, said he never saw any printing or anything of the sort. I think anyone that knows the term "printing" probably knows alittle bit about CCW life.

I agree with your assessment. It would certainly be a test, and certainly something you wouldn't expect on a dog.
That's pretty impressive! (not sure about your friend throwing that our their, but not my place).

When I played with my G19... I found my aggressive throwing caused more movement than I wanted. So, compromise is made. Anyway. Thanks for the thoughts!

What holster and belt do you have? A nice firm belt really helps a lot. I agree that doing things like bowling or disc golf can create some problems.

This friend of mine wouldn't generally tell anyone, but after we got onto the subject of guns and gear it seemed fine to me.

but I currently have an aliengear holster, which held up on a run no problem. So, maybe it'll be better.

Jeeze, Athletic shorts would not even remotely hold up a loaded Glock 19 for me. Even the thicker banded ones. How would you draw the gun one handed without the holster coming out with the gun? Not trying to be a problem. shadowolf713

Whoops re read the first post..

So you might like this, I cut two holes in the fabric that covers the string around the waistband. (since it is doubled over with two layers normally).
Then I placed the "C" hooks into that. Keeps it in place!

For good measure, I cinch the shorts tight with the string. The kydex keeps the weapon at its normal retention for draw.

Consult a lawyer on your state/municipal laws on off body carry or better yet just don't do it. You now no longer have control of the weapon and that opens you up to liability and risk in my book. If your dog is 25-50 yards away and you get attacked (here's hoping that never happens), that gun isn't doing you any good especially if it is well secured.

                        1. No, No, and finally...NO. So much wrong with this, it is a legal and potential dangerous situation waiting to happen.
It's a simple friction based retention holster, a floundering dog rolling on the ground, playing etc. could easily dislodge the gun. Then you have potential for a negligent discharge, lost firearm, etc. situation. Depending how friendly your dog is and assuming off leash as you are playing disc golf, the wrong person could get close enough to take the gun.

                        2. Brandishing...depending how it's perceived, the context of your local/state laws as written and the local political climate one phone call to 911 of "a dog running around with a gun attached to a 'military looking' vest is a PR nightmare for your character waiting to happen. Bye bye CCW potentially, even if found not to be guilty of a crime directly, should it go that far.

3.As mentioned, off body carry already lends itself to a number of disadvantages. With your gun running about freely and not closely accessible at all times, it is of little use should the time arise. Be safer locked by secure means in the vehicle if it is truly that cumbersome during activity and your chosen manner of dress.

Addressing the original question of "how", a nylon "tactical" belt could be worn under the athletic shorts or track pants to support the holster properly and still allowing for the relaxed wardrobe. I know of more than a few people who choose this method for carrying while at the gym and other recreational endeavor. Holster choice may still have to be evaluated even with this belt under gym shorts given your build and current choices.

Why does your dog need a molle tac vest?

patientcero: Thanks for the insight! The dog open carry would not work.

shmook: no defense here, it's easier for hiking with her carrying her own gear and I like the customization of the molle versus the dog packs I've used in the past.

chmsam: That the exact defense I'm looking for!

Thank you all for your time in providing feedback.
I do believe we can all agree, that's a no-go.

Well, for my part, after reading the subject line, I must admit...I thought to myself..."why in the heck would you want to carry your dog concealed????"

Fair enough, didn't think about you dog carrying her own kit. Makes sense!

off the body carry is bad enough, I cant imagine packing a firearm on a dog.

                                      seriously, just no.

such a bad idea, for several reasons.

Can a dog carry a firearm in California?

The simple answer is yes, a dog can carry a gun in California. However, there are some important caveats to keep in mind. First and foremost, the owner of the gun is still responsible for its use. This means that if your dog were to shoot someone, you would be held accountable.

Can dogs be trained to find weapons?

Dog capabilities They can be trained to find the odors of humans and human remains, fire accelerants, drugs and explosives, including gunpowder. "If the gun is loaded, it will contain gunpowder and the dog will be able to detect that," Ferland said.
