Change battery in jeep cherokee key fob

I need to order a new battery for my Jeep Grand Cherokee key fob, but I don’t know what kind I need. How do I open my key fob up to check the battery type?

Answer provided by

Most Jeep Grand Cherokee key fobs take CR2032 batteries, but if you want to make sure that’s the kind your key fob needs, opening it up and checking is super simple.

Just grab a small flathead screwdriver and follow these steps:

  • Insert the flathead screwdriver into the space between the front and back part of the key fob near the key ring mount
  • Gently apply pressure to separate the key fob at the seam
  • Gently pry the battery out of its housing. At this point, you can read the battery to see what kind it is

If you want to replace your battery, at this point you would just install the new battery and then gently push the two parts of the key fob back together until they clicked. Replacement key fobs can be a little expensive, so replacing the battery yourself can save you some money.
