An extended warranty covers many of the electrical goods sold at Costco as standard. However, if you have a Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi, you can get your warranty extended even further.

So, how does Costco’s Visa extended warranty work, and what’s included? I did some digging, and this is what I discovered!

If you pay for products covered under Costco’s standard warranty policy with your Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi, you automatically get an additional two years of warranty coverage. Your coverage will begin when the original manufacturer’s or extended warranty runs out, although terms and conditions state that certain products will not be covered.

So, what exactly is and is not covered by Costco’s Visa Extended Warranty? This is everything you need to know!

What Is Covered By Costco’s Visa Extended Warranty?

Any product that is included in Costco’s standard warranty policy will be covered by Costco’s Visa extended warranty, as long as the item is paid for using a Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi.

This includes electrical goods such as televisions, projectors, and all computers and laptops, with the exception of touchscreen tablets. It also includes a wide range of white goods, for example:

• Large refrigerators and freezers
• Range cookers
• Cooktops
• Some microwaves
• Dishwashers
• Water heaters
• Washers and dryers

Any of these products purchased either in-store or online at Costco.com will come with standard warranty cover, plus two additional years of coverage when paid for with a Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi.

What Is Not Covered By Costco’s Visa Extended Warranty?

There are a number of products that come with a manufacturer’s warranty that will not be covered by Costco’s Visa extended warranty.

These include all land, air, and water vehicles such as cars, boats, and aircraft. Any original equipment included with these vehicles, including tires, will not be covered either.

It is also important to note that you are only covered for up to $10,000 per item included in Costco’s Visa extended warranty. Any repair costs that exceed that will have to be paid for by you.

How Does Costco’s Standard Warranty Policy Work?

In addition to the two-year warranty that covers select Costco products that have been paid for with a Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi, there is also a standard warranty service.

Any product that is also covered by Costco’s Visa extended warranty is eligible for it.

With this standard warranty policy, most electrical goods sold in Costco stores or online at Costco.com get two years of warranty cover from the date of purchase. This means that if the product malfunctions, you can get it repaired free of charge.

If you have Costco’s Visa extended warranty, too, this additional coverage will start when the original warranty expires.

How Else Can I Get Extended Warranty Cover Through Costco?

Extended warranty cover comes as standard with applicable items purchased from Costco.

However, for additional coverage, you can use your Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi, which will automatically add two extra years onto your policy.

You can also get extended warranty coverage through Allstate, by paying for one of their Protection Plans. These will give you up to five years of additional protection, depending on the product.

If you use all three methods of extending your warranty, you can get a maximum of seven years of warranty coverage.

Conclusion: Costco Visa Extended Warranty

Costco automatically applies an extended warranty to select products purchased using a Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi. These include electrical goods, such as televisions and household appliances. While thinking about what credit card to use for a technology purchase today, 09/28/21, I happened to google "How does the Citi Costco Card extended warranty benefit work?" The second result on Google took me to a "wallet" type credit advice site where an analyst had posted a note on 09/09/2021 that "The Costco Credit Card doesn’t offer extended warranty anymore. The benefit was discontinued as of September 2021." I then googled and googled for anywhere else, including Citi, where I could corroborate this (to me) rather startling revelation. I found none.
Then I called the Costco number where one applies for the card and got a Citi/Costco rep who said as far as she knew the benefit still existed. Likewise, as of today, the "Benefits Costco Anywhere Visa" website at costco.com still lists the extended warranty benefit. Then I called the Citi number where one applies for the card and the rep said as far as she knew the benefit still existed, and she said "I would have hoped they would have notified me if that had changed." [The Citi rewards site for that card at citi.com incidentally does NOT list that benefit]. However, she transferred me to customer service, where the rep who answered put me on hold, checked with someone else, and came back and said "Yes, that benefit was canceled as of September 1, 2021."

Bottom Line: I am guessing that the Cosco Citi Anywhere Visa Credit Card Extended Warranty benefit has been (quietly) eliminated as of September 1, 2021. Can anyone else verify this one way or the other. Not from either website, as they apparently do not agree at this point. I should think that, if true, and until it is widely known, unsuspecting customers may apply for the card and/or even use the card in preference to another PRECISELY because of an Extended Warranty that no longer exists.

My original post and concern was because:

1. I saw the assertion at a website. I didn't want to give them any publicity or clicks since they could have been wrong, so I deliberately did not post the link, but just gave the google search value so you could find the site if you really wanted.

2. I got the same exact assertion from a Citi customer service rep on the phone -- I.E. She said the benefit was discontinued as of Sept 01, 2021.

3. I used the "Wayback" link I posted below in this thread to notice that the extended benefit was specifically mentioned in the general description of the card back in about April of this year, and no longer mentioned on the same page today.

These things prompted me to post not a conviction, but that there is a possibility that the benefit has been discontinued. I am kind of new to posting on reddit, but what I have learned is that even a well-documented, well-intended public service concern can be met with rather negative responses and downvotes. Well, you live and learn.

I sincerely hope that Citi and Costco have not dropped this benefit, which can be very valuable to many folks. Maybe it is still available to existing cardholders, but not to new customers. I really don't know. I just thought there was enough anecdotal evidence to alert people to the possibility. I would like to drop the subject now, if you don't mind.
