Does e85 make your car louder

Maybe it depends on the exhaust setup on the car, but I personally couldn't tell a difference. Mine is loud af with 93, 94, E85, etc., it makes 0 difference. But I have heard others say it's a bit quieter with a stock exhaust setup. Out of 100s of people, I've never heard of it sounding more aggressive until the post above me. Just try it and see if you have the kit and are tuned for it. But with no mufflers, I would say there is about a 100% chance you will not hear a difference.

Does e85 make your car louder

Hey all,
So I have the APR Stage 1 tune and have been more than impressed with it. After learning that the E85 tune is built in to the tune as well, I decided to give it a try. I have a custom exhaust that was louder than stock to begin with, so I am pretty keen to what my car sounded like before. Immediately after filling up on E85 and turning the car on, the car was noticeable louder throughout the RPM range, which definitely sounded good. Am I literally "hearing things?" I am theorizing that with the E85 mix, there is more volume that is now coming out the exhaust with the tune, leading to the changed exhaust note.

Thanks,
Charlie

Personally, while on E85 both I and my GF had noticed the exhaust tone become more refined yet even maybe a little quieter. I think the tune is why this happens.

Ethanol does change the tone of the exhaust slightly, yes. Especially when tuned for high levels of ethanol content as a more advanced ignition advance will change the timbre for sure. Because you can typically advance ignition timing using ethanol (depending on how much ethanol you're using), when the DME pulls timing, like during overrun or ALS, it's even more dramatic.

However, what you're experiencing is a slight leaning of the Air/Fuel Ratio (AFR) on the overrun and during ALS events, which causes a slightly more dramatic crackle. For the ZCP/GTS guys and also guys running flash tunes with "burble" overruns, having more ethanol has the same effect on overrun as AFRs are slightly leaned during these periods and create more of a crackle and higher-pitched pops. As you increase Fuel Scalars/FCF in the tune to allow a higher mixture of ethanol, you somewhat loose this sound if you aren't running enough ethanol for the tune as AFRs can be slightly richer than target for the overrun. Once you increase ethanol content closer to and above "zero correction", the AFR will start to come in at or above target AFR and you gain some of that extra crackle. Of course, all of this can be tuned using BM3 and there are several factors at play for sound tuning purposes (AFR, timing, EWG) and knowing the correct values for a given tune is key to sound tuning in general. Of these values, ignition timing has a lot to do with this in combination with AFR. Likewise, richening AFR and pulling more timing creates much deeper bangs/gunshots as the fuel ignites deeper into the turbofolds/turbine section and explodes with more energy. You will loose the burble and gain massive pops/bangs and if you go too far, will enter Anti-Lag (ALS) territory.

FYI, the DME of the ZCP will pull upwards of -15* timing on the overrun and will target an AFR of about 14.7:1 during the overrun. The ZCP on E40 will see leaned AFR's in the 15-16:1 range on average during the overrun, which in combination with timing being pulled up-to -15*, creates a dramatic effect.

How much HP will E85 add?

E85 fuel has a faster ignition time and flame propagation when compared to gasoline. This leads to higher cylinder pressure, as well as increased engine torque and power, gaining up to 20%.

What are the disadvantages of using E85?

E85 CON'S.
It's potentially damaging. E85 is not corrosive in nature, but does attract moisture; and water is bad news for engines. ... .
It can be costly to retrofit. Vehicles produced before 1987 are not E85 compatible. ... .
Not quite environmentally friendly. ... .
Not as efficient. ... .
Bad in cold weather..

Is E85 hard on your car?

E85 is actually safer for your engine than regular gasoline is. E85 flex fuel not only powers your engine but also cleans your engine, fuel lines, and fuel injectors. That's because E85 contains a high amount of ethanol, up to 83%. Ethanol is an excellent cleaner.

Do cars run better on E85?

In fact, E85 is the highest octane fuel on the market. It allows the engine to run more optimally, spark advance, and resist knocking. This extracts more power out of an engine.
