Phase Out of Contractor Local Licensing

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners has approved a plan to phase out local licensing, consistent with HB 735. All local licenses will expire June 30th, 2023 and will not be renewed. The Contractor Licensing Board has been phased out and no new local licenses will be approved. Those interested in obtaining a new contractor license should contact Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation regarding State license approval processes.

Effective July 1st, 2023, to perform work in unincorporated Lee County, contractors must have a state-issued license. Prior to July 1st, 2023, a contractor must have a current Certificate of Insurance for liability and workers’ compensation and/or a current workers’ compensation exemption status with the State of Florida.
