How much does it cost to replace an oil cooler on a 6.0 Powerstroke?

There are several options to consider when replacing the engine oil cooler on the 6.0L diesel engine and parts packages range from about $500 to upwards of $3000.

Why do 6.0 oil coolers fail?

This is the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of truly understanding the 6.0L engine. The engine oil cooler needs to be replaced because it clogs up with heavy particles trapped in the engine coolant. The problem arises when the coolant flows through the tight passageways of the engine oil cooler.

What happens when oil cooler fails on a 6.0 Powerstroke?

In fact, the oil cooler is the primary culprit behind most of the 6.0L's notorious EGR cooler catastrophes. When (not if) the oil cooler fails, the engine is essentially starved of coolant flow and engine oil temp sky-rockets.

Did Ford upgrade the 6.0 oil cooler?

This is a direct replacement for the factory oil cooler found on the 6.0L Powerstroke engines, both truck and van. This is the new and improved design from Ford and is a more effective cooler than the original, failure prone model.
