Find your current location on the map

On your computer, open Google Maps.
At the bottom right, click My location
. The blue dot shows your location.

Give Maps location permission

To center the map where you are, you must give Maps permission to find your location.

On macOS, you may need to turn on Location Services for your browser before you can grant Maps permission in your browser:

On your computer, open System Preferences
Security & Privacy Preferences
Privacy
Location Services.
To allow for changes, at the bottom left, click the lock.
Next to "Enable Location Services," check the box.
Next to your browser, check the box.

Important: To use Safari, you must have Location Services enabled.

On your computer, open Safari and go to Google Maps.
At the bottom right, click My location

- You should be asked to share your location. Choose Allow.
- If the blue dot appears and shows your location, then Maps already has location permission in your browser.
- If there’s a message that says "Google Maps does not have permission to use your location," refresh your browser.

To turn on Location Services in Safari:

Click the Apple icon
System Preferences.
Click the "Security & Privacy" icon. Then, select Privacy.
In the bottom left, click the Lock icon so that it's unlocked.
Check Enable Location Services.
In the list, check Safari.
Click the Lock icon so that it's locked.

Reload your browser (such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).

Find your location on other sites & apps

To find your location in Google Maps on other sites and apps, follow the steps above. However, some features will be different:

You’ll use a different site or app, not Google Maps.
You must first give location permission to the site or app used, not Google Maps.
If you open Google Chrome or Safari, you'll only find your location on secure web pages. You'll find "https" in the address bar.

How Does My Location Work?

My Location uses the Geolocation technology that is built-in with your browser which has access to your current location. Geolocation will find your location using latitude and longitude which are the precise location of a point on earth. To use my location tool, we need to get your permission to use the geolocation. Upon visiting our site, your browser will prompt a message "my-location.org wants to know your location", simply select "Allow" to give us permission.

In order for you to get your location now and be able to see the lat long, address, and the map correctly, you need to enable the location on your browser. If you are on a smartphone, you will also need to enable the location feature. Otherwise, what's my location tool wouldn't be able to find your current location. For privacy reasons, we do not store your location on our website and do not share your location with anyone. Your location will be lost once you leave our site.

What Can I do With My Location?

There are many ways that you can use my current location tool. Following are a few scenarios where our tool comes in handy.
