In the scene however, she wears Slytherin robes - which suggests her character belonged to the same house as Epsom -born Tom Felton's character, Draco Malfoy.

Charlotte's character is shown in the Defence Against the Dark Arts scene where Harry, Ron and Hermione learn about the Unforgiveable Curses. The film was released in 2005 and was the first time Charlotte appeared in a full-length feature film.

Since then, Charlotte went on to star in Call The Midwife as Nurse Barbara Gilbert, a main role from season three to seven. Her character was tragically killed off after Charlotte decided to explore more acting opportunities.

Charlotte plays the role of Mae's girlfriend and the series also features Friends actress Lisa Kudrow.

Charlotte also starred in the New Year's Day 2019 episode of Doctor Who titled "Resolution", alongside Jodie Whittaker. Other credits include roles in Channel 4's Fresh Meat with Jack Whitehall, Doctors and Death in Paradise.

Charlotte Ritchie became a household name after playing nurse Barbara Hereward in four series of the nation's favourite Sunday night drama, Call the Midwife.

Sadly, for her and us, Charlotte will be remembered for her tragic death in the BBC One period drama, dying of septicaemia in the arms of her husband, Tom (Jack Ashton).

Since then Charlotte has appeared in a wide variety of shows, including Doctor Who , Sky comedy Dead Pixels and, especially hit BBC One sitcom, Ghosts.

Most fans of the actress will know that:

  • She made her film debut at 15 in The Open Doors
  • She plays the role of Alison in Ghosts
  • Charlotte studied English at Bristol University

But what else do we know about Charlotte Ritchie? Here are several things you probably don't know...

Charlotte was born and bred in London

Charlotte was born in 1989 in Clapham and went on the attend the James Allen Girl’s School in Dulwich. After joining the British Youth Music Theatre, she then went to university in Bristol, with a view to becoming a teacher because her father thought she needed a back-up plan if acting didn't work out.

In her final year at uni, Charlotte auditioned for and was cast in Channel 4's hilarious student comedy, Fresh Meat, opposite Jack Whitehall and Joe Thomas.

Can she sing as well as act?

Charlotte might be an actress first and foremost, but she is also a talented singer and songwriter, and was one of four members of the British classical crossover group, All Angels. The group performed between 2006-2011 and sold half a million albums of their two albums, while they were still at school.

Charlotte’s brother is also a singer/songwriter like her. The siblings often collaborate, and share their hauntingly beautiful performances on YouTube, leaving fans thrilled at how talented they are.

Charlotte is not the only talented member of her family...

Charlotte’s brother, Luke, is, like her, also a singer/songwriter. The siblings often collaborate, and shared their beautiful performances on YouTube. Their EP Light of Another was released in 2014. Luke continues to perform although Charlotte focuses mainly on her acting career these days.

She had an uncredited role in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’...

Charlotte has a bulging CV that boasts shows like Fresh Meat, Doctors, Raised by Wolves, Taskmaster, Life of Riley and Sky comedy Feel Good, but before her career took off she appeared in as a Slytherin student in the 2005 fourth film in the Harry Potter series.

How did her mother, Elise, react to her leaving ‘Call the Midwife’?

Charlotte revealed on ITV morning show Lorraine that her mum is such a huge fan of Call the Midwife she was crushed when she revealed she had left the show. The actress confessed: “She’s not happy, but she is very glad that I have [starred in the series]. She loves the show and she understands!”

What is her take on the huge success of ‘Ghosts’?

Charlotte stars in the BBC One sitcom as Alison, a newlywed who inherits a mansion with her husband, Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe), and soon discovers they share the dwelling with inhabitants from centuries, even millenia, ago. The characters are rich and the comedy is broad.

“There’s something for everyone in it,” Charlotte told iNews. “It’s very uncynical and it’s very sweet. It doesn’t punch down: it’s sophisticated in that respect. It doesn’t need a punching bag to be funny. It doesn’t compromise on anything to be a family show.”

How ambitious is Charlotte in her career?

It’s hard to say, but what we do know is her driving force is not fame. Her life away from the camera is very much unchronicled and it appears her privacy is important to her, as is her lack of on-set star behaviour.

She said: “There is such a reverence around famous people that is sometimes not really justified. The best people in life are the ones who consider how their actions might affect somebody else.”

She keeps in touch with the cast of Fresh Meat and says it was a great training ground for how to behave on set. “Those people laid the foundations of what I expect on a set, and they set such high standards,” she said of her fellow cast. “They were kind and thoughtful and funny. It was a really good first proper job.”
