Frequently Asked Questions

How does Clearblue Digital pregnancy test work?
When you are pregnant your body produces the pregnancy hormone hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotrophin). The amount of hCG in your body increases in the early stages of pregnancy. Clearblue can detect tiny amounts of this hormone in your urine. (The sensitivity of this test is 25mlU/ml).
Based on the level of hCG in your urine, the Clearblue conception indicator provides an estimate of when you conceived.

How accurate is Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test in detecting pregnancy?
In laboratory tests Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Tests is more than 99% accurate in detecting whether or not you are pregnant, when used from the day your period is due. If you test before your period is due and get a 'not pregnant' result, there is still a chance you may be pregnant.

How accurate is the Clearblue conception indicator?
The conception indicator is 92% accurate at detecting when you conceived. The estimate is based on the level of hCG in your urine. The level of hCG varies from women to women, and it is therefore possible that the conception indicator might occasionally give misleading results. The accuracy of the 'pregnant'/'not pregnant' result is over 99% accurate when testing from the day the period is due.
If you are testing more than 6 weeks after conception the conception indicator may give unexpected results. This is because the level of hCG in the urine is too high for the test to provide an accurate estimate of the time since conception.

Can a digital pregnancy test be wrong?

Could a negative result be wrong? It's possible to get a negative result from a home pregnancy test when you're actually pregnant. This is known as a false-negative.

How accurate is a positive digital pregnancy test?

Home pregnancy tests can be up to 99% accurate. However, in some instances, they may produce a false-positive result. Incorrect test usage, previous abortions and miscarriages, and some medications may lead to a false-positive pregnancy test result. People should always see their doctor after a positive pregnancy test.

How early can a digital test detect pregnancy?

In laboratory testing, FIRST RESPONSE™ Digital Pregnancy Test detected the pregnancy hormone levels in the urine of 60% of pregnant women 5 days before their expected period; in 86% of pregnant women 4 days before their expected period; in 96% of pregnant women 3 days before their expected period; in >99% of pregnant ...

Is a digital pregnancy test less sensitive?

Generally, most dye tests detect hCG in urine at levels between 25 mIU/mL and 50 mIU/mL. Digital tests, on the other hand, are less sensitive and may require more hCG — which is why you should wait until you've actually missed your period to try this type of test.
