How do i turn off voicemail transcription on my iphone

iPhone users with iOS 10 and above have noticed the new iPhone voicemail transcription feature.

This feature helps transcribe the words spoken into voicemail messages and puts the text of the voicemail on your app.

This way, you don’t need to replay the audio of the voicemail to check your voice messages. If needed, you can just check out the transcript!

However, there are some iPhone users who don’t want to use this feature on their phones.

Some report that the transcription of the voicemail isn’t helpful because it’s usually incorrect, while others have problems deleting their messages with this feature turned on.

Some user’s voicemails are getting too jammed up, making it hard to check each voicemail that they receive.

The problem is that Apple does not give an option to switch off the voicemail transcription feature since it’s currently in beta mode.

The good news is that we have found 2 easy tricks on how to disable this feature! You can either:

Turn Off Siri

Since the voicemail transcription makes use of Siri, one way to disable the feature is to turn off Siri.

First, go to ‘Settings’ and then select ‘Siri & Search’.

Look for the three settings under Ask Siri as seen below. You have to turn these settings off in order to disable Siri.

Once you do this, there will be a popup window confirming that you are turning off Siri. It will inform you that it will take some time to reactivate Siri if you decide to use this feature again.

Change Siri’s Language

If you don’t want to completely disable Siri, another method that you can use is to change Siri’s language.

If you do this, it won’t be able to transcribe your voicemail messages into text since it won’t be able to comprehend the American English accent or the English language.

Similar to the previous method, the first thing you do is to go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Siri & Search’.

From here, select ‘Language’.

In here you will see a list of the different languages that Siri can use. Choose any type of language (Australian English/ Korean/ Japanese/ French).

Once you change Siri’s language, the voicemail transcription on your iPhone won’t work anymore.

Instead of being able to transcribe the voicemail, it will only indicate that the transcription is unavailable.

We understand that the iPhone voicemail transcription feature is not for everyone – it may be convenient for some, yet also a hassle to others.
