How do you change batteries in oculus quest 2 controllers

Being that the Oculus controller is a wireless device, it requires a battery in order for it to function properly. And from time to time, you will inevitably have to replace the battery to keep the controller working.

The Oculus controller, unlike a lot of other controllers, uses a single AA battery in each controller, and this battery lasts a decently long time before needing to have it replaced. However, how do you change the battery on an Oculus controller?

To change the battery, take the battery cover off the Oculus controller. Next, carefully pull the battery out of its position, and place a new battery in it. Make sure that the + and – symbols correspond to the position shown on the Oculus controller’s battery compartment.

But can you use rechargeable batteries with your Oculus controller? And how long does the battery last on your Oculus controller anyway?

To change the battery in your Oculus controller, all you would need to do is first remove the controller’s battery cover, located on the right side of the right controller and left side of the left controller & has an arrow icon at the top pointing downwards.

To open it, turn the controller upside down, gently push with your thumb, and slide upwards.

Now simply get your new AA battery to swap the old one out for.

Dispose of the old battery in an appropriate battery receptacle to avoid causing environmental damage through its disposal.

Take the new battery, making sure that the + and – symbols match up to the + and – symbols as shown in the battery compartment. Put the battery cover back on, and the controller should now have battery life again. Be sure to be careful that you do not damage the locking mechanism of the battery cover, as if you are not careful, you may cause the plastic to snap. It is not particularly vulnerable to breaking, but it is nonetheless possible.

While it may not always be the simplest thing to have line up, making sure that you replace the batteries in both Oculus controllers at the same time is a good idea. This does not have a significant impact if you do not, but it makes it a lot more convenient to have the batteries in your controllers run out at the same time. This reduces the frequency of needing to stop playing your Oculus games to swap out a battery.

Are some brands of battery better than others?

When picking the best AA battery to use with your Oculus controller, you inevitably want to make sure that you use the highest-quality batteries possible within your price range. But is there any real difference between battery brands?

In general, many of the name-brand batteries on the market are just as good as one another. If nothing else, the choice between something like Energizer or Duracell won’t be that big a deal, since neither is THAT much different from the other. If you are concerned about which brand of battery you buy, the biggest suggestion we can make is that you should never use a store-brand battery. At best, a store-brand battery may be okay, but at worst, it could be of extremely low quality. The savings are not worth it, especially with an Oculus controller, since the battery lasts quite a long time.

How long does an Oculus controller last on one battery?

The Oculus line of controllers lasts quite a long time at best, with none of the Oculus controllers being anywhere near a low battery life. However, some Oculus controllers last a lot longer.

For example, an Oculus Quest 1 controller can last you for more than 25 hours, while the Oculus Quest 2 is completely extraordinary by comparison. Some people can go months in between having to swap out the battery.

Can you use rechargeable batteries in an Oculus controller?

If you want to not have to use disposable batteries, the good news is that you do not have to. Rechargeable batteries are compatible with the Oculus controller, and can be used the same way as a regular disposable battery is.

The main downside is that rechargeable batteries are much more expensive than disposable ones, which becomes a much more difficult pill to swallow considering the fact that the battery in the Oculus controller lasts quite a long time, especially if it is an Oculus Quest 2. However, if you use your Oculus device a lot, inevitably, getting a rechargeable battery for each Oculus controller will make its money back and then some.

Another downside, though one that can be mitigated, is the environmental impact of a rechargeable battery.

One rechargeable battery when compared to one disposable battery has more toxins. However, this factor is mitigated in two ways. One, a rechargeable battery produces less environmental waste than the ten batteries you may use over time. Two, so long as you dispose of your batteries using a proper battery receptacle, the environmental impact is moot.

What to do if the battery is leaking?

While batteries are typically safe, there are some situations where they may be unsafe to handle. One of these is when the battery appears to be leaking.

This is very serious for multiple reasons. First, the leakage – battery acid – is corrosive, and can burn your skin. A leaking battery may also suggest that the battery is about to explode, so take extreme caution when trying to swap it out. At minimum, wear protective gloves to protect yourself from battery acid leakage.

Once the battery has been removed, it is advised that you dispose of it in an appropriate battery receptacle.

This is because the corrosive nature of battery acid can do damage to soil. However, it is not a particularly damaging thing to throw in the trash, particularly with alkaline-based batteries. Whether it is a rechargeable battery or a disposable battery, you should handle disposal of it with care. Recycling your batteries is not a particularly difficult process, especially if you can find a receptacle for batteries in your town.
