Feb 19, 2014 I'm a new dog owner who adopted a stray, I noticed his nails are looking pretty long, anyone know what is an average price for getting them cut? Joined Jul 7, 2011 · 7,036 Posts
Don't know sorry they have always just done it when Dougie is groomed, ie not separately charged Joined

Ask your vet about nurses clinics. The vet nurse(s) will do them for a small fee. Alternatively groomers will also do them for a small fee - price will differ from vet practice to vet practice and groomer to groomer!

I'm taking Jethro to get his done this afternoon. It was £8.00 for the nail clipping but he also needs his pad fur trimming out so it's £12 for both. He's gigantapuppy though (a Newfoundland/St Bernard cross) so I don't know if that will have hiked the price up (seems to have that effect on everything else ) Joined Apr 30, 2010 · 12,130 Posts
Our groomers £6 for nails clipped Joined Feb 19, 2013 · 402 Posts
As a groomer I would cut nails as part of the grooming service. It maybe better value to book your rescue in for an MOT which will
include a bath, trim, descale teeth and nails if you choose the right groomer - they you'll know that he's had a full MOT! Joined Jun 13, 2012 · 6,420 Posts
Its easy to do them yourself with a pair of clippers. If they're black I just clip a little at a time and file the ends with nail files. Joined Nov 27, 2013 · 10,791 Posts
I'm lucky as my vet never charges for doing Dylan's nails Joined May 30, 2012 · 503 Posts

What she said I agree with Westy, have a groom instead. I dislike offering it as a service alone because of the reasons westy detailed and also I find it tricky to make time for sometimes. I charge £6 for nails but the two vets local to my salon charge £12 and £17, whilst I charge £20 to groom a labrador (for
example), so for an extra £3-8 you get a bath and a de-shed and ears cleaned :thumbup1: Joined Jan 5, 2013 · 30,193 Posts

My local poodle parlour charged us 50p per foot her dog - but I'm guessing there is a fair chance she might have charged a little more if we'd only had one Other places I phoned - most of them said around £5 per dog - as others have said - it depends what else is being done - mines not typically a breed that needs to go to the parlour for

This price is in line with how much dog groomers charge. Many veterinarian practices do put prices online, but some of them require that you phone them to get a price for their dog nail clipping service.
How much does it cost to cut a dog's toenails off?The general recommendation is to cut approx 2mm away from the quick. But if a dog has black or dark claws it can be difficult or impossible to see the quick and this will make nail trimming more difficult.
How much does it cost to get your toenails clipped?Costs of Nail Trimming
For a special treatment that includes exfoliation, nail and cuticle trimming, fungus prevention, and maybe even a foot massage, the average cost across the country is about $35.00 to $40.00.
Will a vet trim my dog's nails?Luckily, most groomers and veterinary clinics offer nail trimming services, so the owner doesn't have to do it; however, this comes at an extra expense and some dogs are even more stressed out by getting their nails professionally done instead of by someone they already trust in their home.
