Clients, family members and friends may be expecting prompt or even immediate responses to any missed calls. If you've lost your phone somewhere or left it behind, it can be a very stressful situation. Fortunately, there are ways to access voicemail even when you don't have your iPhone or Android with you.

1 How to Check Your Voicemail From Another Phone

You can check your iPhone or Android voicemail remotely from a mobile device or a landline. Cellular phone service providers have different rules for accessing voicemail remotely. In general, the instructions are similar regardless of your provider. To retrieve iPhone or Android voicemail from another phone, simply:

  1. Dial your phone number and wait for voicemail to play.
  2. When voicemail begins, press the star (*) key if you have AT&T or Sprint. Press the pound (#) key if you have Verizon, Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile.
  3. When prompted, enter your voicemail password. If you haven't set a password, the default code is your seven digit phone number without the area code. Then, press the # key
  4. You will then be able to listen to any new voicemail.

2 How to Change Your Voicemail Greeting

While it's much easier to change your voicemail settings on an iPhone or Android when you're holding the device in your hand, it's possible to change your voicemail greeting from another phone. You'll need to access your voicemail settings differently depending on your service carrier.

If you have AT&T or Sprint, you should call your phone number, wait for voicemail to begin, and then press the star (*) key. If you have Virgin, Verizon or Boost Mobile coverage, you should call your phone number, wait for voicemail to begin, and then press the pound key (#). Next, you'll have to enter your PIN. Once you're done, you'll have access to your voicemail and your voicemail settings. Press the corresponding number to gain access to your voicemail greeting. When the vocal prompt asks if you want to change your greeting, press the corresponding key, and then follow the instructions to change your voicemail greeting to the outgoing message you desire.
