Connecting a Google Home Mini to Wifi

  • Make sure you have the Google Home app downloaded onto your mobile device
  • After installing the app, your phone will need to be on MaroonTvGaming throughout the setup, and any time you are using the app after.

In the app:

  1. “Welcome home” click “get started”
  2. Log in with your Gmail account
  3. “Create a home” Press “get started”
  4. Tap “Set up new devices”

Follow the steps on your screen…

  1. Looking for devices
  2. Connect to power
  3. Choose the room (opt. custom room “dorm”)
  4. Choose MaroonTvGaming from the list of wireless networks
  5. Click next
  6. Type in the wifi key
  7. Once connected, you will need to enroll your devices MAC address
  8. Complete set up in-app
  9. Once complete, return your phone back to MaroonWifi!

After set up, you will see options to customize your Google Home.

Change the Wi-Fi network of your Google speaker or display

Google Nest or Home speakers and displays can only remember one Wi-Fi network at a time. To connect your speaker or display to a new Wi-Fi network, follow the steps below:

Check if your speaker or display is currently connected to a Wi-Fi network

To do this, try to ask your Assistant a question, like 'What time is it?' If the Assistant is able to answer, then it’s connected to a Wi-Fi network.

If your speaker or display isn’t connected to a Wi-Fi network

Set up your speaker or display on the new Wi-Fi network:

  1. Open the Google Home app

  2. At the top left, tap Add

  3. Follow the in-app steps.

If these steps don’t solve the issue, you’ll need to factory reset your speaker or display, then set it up again.

  3. On your mobile setup device, make sure:
    • Your mobile device is running: 

      • Android phone with Android 8.0 or later
      • Android tablet with Android 8.0 or later
      • iPhone or iPad with iOS 14.0 or later

    • You're using the most recent version of the Google Home app.
      1. Android: Get the latest version Google Home app 
      2. iOS: Get the latest version Google Home app 
  4. Make sure the speaker or display is within 15-20 ft (4-6 m) of the Wi-Fi router.
  5. Has the speaker or display been connected to this network before?
    • Were there any recent changes to your network?
      • Did your Internet Service Provider (ISP) upgrade or make any changes to your router or modem?

Note: Your speaker or display might not be able to connect to public Wi-Fi networks such as business networks, shared apartment networks, school dorm networks, school networks, and mobile hotspots or pocket Wi-Fi devices.

General troubleshooting 

Step 1. Reboot the following devices:

  1. Wi-Fi router

    1. Unplug the power source for ~1 minute and plug back in.
    2. Note for Netgear Nighthawk users: If you're unable to set up using the Netgear Nighthawk router, then you may need to: 
      • Disable Access Control
      • Enable the option "Allow guests to see each other and access my local network" in the "Guest Network Setup"
  2. Speaker or display
    1. Disconnect the power cable from the speaker or display.
    2. Reconnect power cable back into the speaker or display.

Step 2. Turn Wi-Fi on and off on the mobile setup device

Step 3. If you have a dual band router, try to set up your speaker or display on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands
