How to set up a facebook page for an organization

Nonprofit and for-profit organizations can join Facebook by creating a Facebook page. Facebook pages offer many of the same features as personal pages, including news feeds and the ability to create and manage events. Unlike personal profiles, status updates and other posts are public and visible to all Facebook users. Facebook pages support additional applications that are designed to promote your organization. An organization page can only be created by an official representatives of the organization.

  1. Navigate to the Facebook website in any Web browser.

  2. Click on the "Create a Page" link at the bottom of the Facebook sign-in page.

  3. Click your organization type on the Create a Page screen.

  4. Click on the organization category that best fits your organization using the drop-down menu that appears.

  5. Type your organization's name in the text box.

  6. Type in any additional information requested. Not all organization types request additional information. The additional information includes the official address of your organization or business. Click "I agree to Facebook Pages Terms."

  7. Click on the "Get Started" button.

  8. Type the information requested on the Create a Facebook Account page and click on the "Sign Up Now!" button to complete the registration process.

If you are formally affiliated with an organization, making a Facebook page is one way to create awareness about your group or business. Creating a Facebook page takes just a few minutes. You are automatically designated an administrator. Once your page is started, you can add other Facebook members as administrators using the "Edit Page" feature, which then allows them to help you manage the page.

  1. Log in to your Facebook account. Type the term "Pages" into the search bar available on top of any Facebook screen and choose the "Facebook Pages" link in the search results. On the next screen, choose the "Create Page" icon in the top right corner of the screen.

  2. Click on the "Company, Organization, or Institution" button, located in the top row of page category icons.

  3. Click on the "Choose a Category" drop-down menu and select a subcategory for your page from the list provided.

  4. Type the name of your organization into the "Company Name" box.

  5. Click on the blue "Facebook Page Terms" link and review the rules for Facebook pages. The rules open in a new Internet browser screen. Return to the tab containing the "Create a Page" screen and check the box next to "I Agree to Facebook Page Terms." Click the blue "Get Started" button.

  6. Use the steps provided to set up basic information for your new page, including an image and first status update. Click the blue "Edit Info" link at the top of your page, just beneath its name, to add a full description. Other info that may be added for an organization page includes an address, mission and date of founding.
