If your LG refrigerator is leaking water into the floor from the freezer compartment, there could be several reasons why. Assuming your refrigerator hasn't lost power and the water isn't from thawing and melting items in the freezer, then you can begin investigating some common reasons why water might get onto the floor of your kitchen.

Ice Maker and Bin Position

An LG french door refrigerator ice maker leaking water may be caused by the ice maker itself or the ice bin position. When the water supplying your ice maker enters the cube molds to start the process of making ice cubes, the spray from the inlet can sometimes overshoot the ice tray and splash extra water into the catch bin where the finished ice cubes are eventually dumped.

If the ice bin is out of its normal position, it may allow some of the extra spray to get into the bottom of the freezer. Since your LG freezer is located in the bottom of the refrigerator, the water may leak out into the floor through the door gasket before it has a chance to freeze.

Open Liquid Containers

Sometimes you place a container with liquid in it into your freezer for one reason or another. Perhaps you are freezing a tray of specialty ice cubes. Whenever you have an open container of water or any other liquid, there is a chance of spillage before the liquid freezes. Check to see if an ice tray or other container of water has spilled inside the freezer, which is a simple explanation for the water in the floor.

Water Pressure Problem

The ice maker supply line mentioned previously can leak onto the floor in another manner. The water inlet that feeds the ice maker can have water pressure that is too high. If the pressure is so high that it causes the ice cube trays to overfill, it may spill water into the bottom of the freezer. Also check the water inlet valve. If it's cracked, or if it has a loose fitting, water will leak out around the valve.

The cube size can be adjusted on an LG ice maker. If dialed down, less water will come from the inlet and the spill may not occur. Less pressure in the line may also prevent splashing, which could cause additional spillage.

Water Filter Problem

If the water filter head or housing becomes cracked, water can leak out and make its way onto your floor. Also check the water filter seal. If it's torn, cracked or missing, it won't be able to form a tight fit and keep water in the filter. If either of these parts is damaged, you'll need a replacement part or water will likely continue to leak onto your floor.

LG Defrost Drain Issues

A common reason for refrigerators to leak water into the floor is a clogged defrost drain or a cracked LG refrigerator drain pan. When the defrost heater in the freezer melts away the frost on the cooling coil, the water flows down a drain and into a pan underneath the unit. When food or ice clogs the drain, the water backs up and can run out into the floor in large quantities. Clearing the drain with hot water will fix this problem.

What is the biggest problem with LG refrigerators?

Unfortunately, many LG users have reported that they have had problems with their compressors. The most common culprit is a faulty seal, which can stop the compressor from being able to run. So, if your fridge is running but not cooling, then there is a good chance you have an issue with your compressor.

Heavier Items on the Bottom Frozen foods can be weighty, especially frozen turkeys and hams. Because your freezer is on the bottom, removing these items will require more work. This can be a safety concern for seniors and anyone who has trouble bending and lifting heavier objects.
