One of My Favorites Lock,Stock & Two Smoking Barrels along with Layercake and Snatch, Although I prefer the Movie Snatch much more. It's one of the quintessential British Gangster Films and funny to boot, plus you get Vinnie Jones who is Funny, you can't lose with this movie.I had got this after a few years of not seeing Lock, stock. I enjoyed it again. The Cockney Rhyming, the cast who some of them would go on to be big. The silliness and absurdity of it all, a classic really hard to believe after all these years it still holds up. I got this steelbook version bestbuy exclusive at biglots recently, a little disappointed of the quality of the case despite it looking cool. and the lack of ease of removing the disc from the case. no booklet, special features is basically one of the crew talking about the making of the film ,and a small snippet of scenes. nothing else. Still Im glad I finally own it.

Great for the locale and the gratuitous mob violence and great character actors. Definitely a Taratino take-off, with a plot and car chases that one doesn't want to do too much thinking about. We have seen other movies by this director, with a similar response.

The general consensus seems to be that Snatch is Guy Richie’s best film. I have to disagree. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was his debut, the first movie of his that I saw and I think is his standout. It has all of his best elements from an engaging crew of characters led by Jason Statham before he was an action hero, British criminals, some comedy and a fantastic soundtrack.

The characters are the first thing that stands out. Besides Statham and his three friends who are the leads there are plenty of others from Rory Breaker (Vas Blackwood) a crazed gangster to Big Chris (Vinnie Jones) who is a collection man to Gary (Victor McGuire) and Dean (Jake Abraham) who are two bumbling criminals. Each one gets their own moment to shine.

Crime was the theme of Richie’s first few films and in this case Statham and company fall into debt with a porn king and mobster Hatchet Harry (P.H. Moriarty) and decide to rip off some stick up artists. Things go completely wrong which showed some innovative and humorous writing.

Finally, at each turn there’s also the perfect song like James Brown’s The Boss or The Stooges’ I Wanna Be Your Dog. Plus there’s funny moments like when someone at a pub turns the station on Rory while he’s watching a football game. Rory proceeds to light the man on fire.

All together it’s a perfect match of elements.

I forgot just how much foul language this movie has. It like every other word is filth. Over the top. There are scenes that just take it to extremes too where there isn’t a need to. I’d have to say it’s now very entertaining also.

Guy Ritchie presents the best ensemble movies with surprise happenings one can’t predict.

If you are a Guy Ritchie fan then you’ll love this movie! The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. The script is over the top filled with wittiness and captivating, creativity. Sting has a few outstanding cameo’s that leave you grinning. A must watch, especially if you love British humor and masterful plotting! Snatch is another must see movie by Guy Ritchie.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking barrels is a fantastic british crime drama that has more the disposition of a black comedy than anything else. in the Tradition of quinton tarintino films, this movie is stylish and compelling. With a character driven story and a long convoluted plot. The story follows a group of small time thieves who get way into deep in a game of cards. This sets of an INSANE chain reaction of events, all centered somehow around 2 antique shotguns worth a half million pounds - of course no one knows how much they're worth!!
This is one of the most ironic movies of it's type you'll find. The way all the shiesty characters are brought together in the film is brilliant and entertaining. You've got crosses and double crosses and triple crosses, and in the climax you have the stage set for a major disaster as everyone is killing everyone else, with thanks to great confusion and mistaken identity.
The actual plot twists turns are far too complex to go over in this review just suffiuce it to say that you'll be watching the movie laughing to yourself at the unbelievable turns of fate that unfold on the screen. The wild web of relationships between the characters is simply hilarious. There are chracters working for people they dont even know they are working for who end up killing their own boss unkowingly in the confusion. The camera style is excellent and the english flair is a nice component to the overall feel of the movie in comparison to typical american crime culture flicks. This is a must see for fans of resevoir dogs, pulp fiction, jackie brown, playing god, good fellas, or any similar movie. this is just one of those movies you'll have to sit down and watch in order to see what all the full is about.
Very well written and well directed, Lock stock and two smoking barrels is an enjoyable experience all around.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real winner from Guy Ritchie

A great British film, starring Vinnie Jones, as, well, himself, and Jason Statham, who always plays himself. A very compicated story about four mates who get roped into a crooked poker game and have to come up with some serious money to get themselves out of lots of trouble. Tom and Jerry style violence and humour throughout, and if the cockney gets too hard to understand, at one point it's even got subtitles. A brilliant brilliant film.

NB: The DVD was a copy onto a blank disc, but this item was received strangely with what appeared to be factory sealed in cellophane.
Was also forced to actually give a star rating prior to posting, really wanted to give zero stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Extended pleasure!

This is quite possibly one of my favourite 1990's films, but this is the first time I've ever seen the Director's cut version because I was curious to see which parts were cut out. Having seen it I can say that it's a bit of a mixed bag over the various choppings, some of them (like the card game scenes) I can see why they went because they don't add much to the film, and some of it would have actually detracted from the film's appeal, in my opinion, particularly the needless use of the C word. However there is quite a lot about why Big Chris is who he is, which I think might have explained to some people more about his character. Overall I think I prefer the original version, and this is of curiosity value and interest, but no doubt this was fresh and original at the time and remains an essential viewing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great British film

Great movie. Love it. Modern classic. Hadn't seen it in years and thoroughly enjoyed. Not as slick as I remembered it, kind of feels rough around the edges. Definitely a beer or mug of tea and a bacon buttie while watching. Chardonnay and nibbles ain't going to cut it with this one 👍
