The Nike Air Max 1 was a completely unique concept when it debuted in 1987. Inspired by the Centre Pompidou, architect Tinker Hatfield added a window so consumers could see how Nike's air-filled technology works. This was controversial, with many on Nike's team opposing the development of the shoe. From a modern perspective, the early Air Max 1 windows do look primitive. Over time, the design of the Air Max became more refined. In fact, no throwback Air Max 1s were developed until the 1990s, and no collaborations were announced until 2002. Since then, the Air Max 1 has been the canvas for bold experiments with color and texture. The Air Max 1 Tokyo Maze features unique geometric art on the upper. The Chinese New Year mixes patterns, bold solids and is buffed to a high shine. The Air Max 1 Chinatown New York catches the eye with its contrast stitching and multi-colored sole. The Have a Nike Day is a more subdued palette, and it has a softer suede texture.

Kleuren, materialen en het verhaal van de Nike Air Max 1.

De Nike Air Max 1 is een eerbetoon aan het eerste model van de Air Max. De Baron kent zijn klassiekers en heeft dan ook vanzelfsprekend een paar van deze dikke sneakers onder zijn bed staan. We schrijven het jaar 1978 als Nike zijn beroemde air technologie ontwikkelt en toepast in zijn sneakers en hardloopschoenen. Bijna tien jaar later, 1987, wordt de Nike Air Max op de markt gebracht. Bij deze sneakers wordt de air unit zichtbaar in de zool van de schoen en een nieuw model sneaker was een feit. Op deze sneaker volgde talloze modellen, waar de Nike Air Max 1 er eentje van is. De vernieuwde versie van het origineel is geheel van deze tijd, zonder daarbij het origineel uit het oog te verliezen. Natuurlijk zijn er nu ook de Air Max 90, 95, 97, 270, 720 en nog vele andere, maar deze eerste blijft toch bijzonder. Nieuwe colorways en het gebruik van moderne materialen zorgen ervoor dat de legende voortleeft. Voor De Baron is de Nike Air Max 1 een sneaker die makkelijk combineert met verschillende kledingstijlen. Naast de Air Max sneakers zijn ook de Air Force 1 van Nike en de Jordan 1 sneakers enorm populair.
