Hey there!  I’m back this week with the 5th post of recommended products and the 2nd list featuring organic foods from ALDI.  Be sure to check out the organics post from June if you missed it!

As I’ve mentioned, ALDI is doing a really great job of expanding their selection of organic foods and not just in the obvious ways.  I often come across something kind of obscure, like organic seasonings or pure organic maple syrup that isn’t the first thing I would think they would stock organic…but they do, and I love it!

The best thing is that there isn’t much of a price difference, and you’d be surprised at what you can find organic.  Here is a list of a few of my favorite things to buy organic at ALDI.

5 Favorite Foods from ALDI

1. Simply Nature Organic Fruit Bars

Simply Nature Organic Frozen Fruit Bars – 4-2.5 fl. oz. bars for $3.29

I love, love, love these frozen fruit bars.  My favorite are the coconut flavor, and of the (very) few things that I buy just for me, these are the only thing I REFUSE to share with the kids.  No really…there’s only four in there!

I’ve considered trying to make my own, but I think that between the organic aspect and just how dialed-in-delectable these things are, it would be an expensive endeavor that’s just not worth it.

Details From a the Label:

  • USDA Organic
  • Made with real fruit
  • No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives
  • 160 calories per 1 bar serving

Find it in the Freezer Section

2.  Simply Nature Frozen Berries

Simply Nature Organic Frozen Berries – 12 oz. for $2.99

Oh, how convenient it is to keep frozen fruit on hand.  I find new ways to put it to good use it all the time.  Just today I made up some crepes with strawberry cream cheese filling, and those frozen berries are absolutely perfect for stirring into something like creamy cream cheese!  My ALDI regularly has blueberries and strawberries in the organic vari-e-tay.

Details From a the Label:

  • USDA Organic
  • Grade A berries
  • Excellent source of Vitamin C
  • Unsweetened
  • Quick frozen for freshness and flavor
  • Resealable bag (that’s a big plus, TJ’s doesn’t have that the last time I checked)
  • 50 calories per 1 cup serving

3.  Simply Nature Organic Whole Wheat Pasta

Simply Nature Organic Whole Wheat Pasta – 16 oz for $1.09

I was so stoked when ALDI got these in!  Not only are they better for you being whole wheat and all (which is awesome that they have anyway), but organic as well!  I’ve seen organic Spaghetti and Penne pastas at my store, but there may be more.

I like whole wheat pasta just fine, but I haven’t had a lot of success feeding it to my family* in the past. But, a couple of weeks ago I was able to dish it up to them as plain old spaghetti with marinara and no one knew the difference!  That, to me, is a testimony to kid approval.

Details From a the Label:

  • USDA Organic
  • 100% organic durum whole wheat
  • Product of Italy
  • 200 calories per 2 oz. serving

Find it with the Pantry Items (soups, sauces, etc.)

4.  Simply Nature Organic Mediterranean Olive Oil

Simply Nature Organic Mediterranean Extra Virgin Olive Oil – 16.9 fl. oz. for $4.99

I go through olive oil like (a) crazy (person).  My son has Autism and is a really, really picky eater.  He’s actually more of a protester of food than picky, but pizza is one of the things he will eat, without fail.  Well, for a few years now I make homemade, crust and sauce, both requiring a decent dose of olive oil.

Outside of that, I use it when I can since it is a better-for-you oil option.

This is a nice, clean tasting olive oil, and as the label says, definitely fruity.  It’s also worth mentioning that ALDI’s Olive Oils are Quality Certified by The North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA) and this specific one is actually listed on their website as a certified oil (that’s right, I did my homework).

I think that’s pretty impressive considering the price difference from some “olive oils” that are NOT certified.

Jerks.  Anyway…

Details from the Label:

  • USDA Organic
  • Mild Intensity with fruit flavors
  • 12 calories per 1 tablespoon serving

Find it in the Baking section

5.  Simply Nature Organic Plain Whole Milk Yogurt

Simply Nature Organic Plain Whole Milk Yogurt – 32 oz. for $2.99

I really only buy plain, unflavored yogurt because, well, it’s so much better to make it your own by doing your own add-ins!  I even wrote a post about it…here.

I also decided to forgo the low-fat, no-fat versions because whole yogurt, to me, is actually good; it provides some substance to a snack item that’s otherwise…pretty blah.

I really do appreciate that ALDI stores have an organic version of something as versatile as plain yogurt.  There is just so much you can do with it, including make your own yogurt!  Sub it in for sour cream, use it for making quick breads (like banana bread), use it in marinades…all kinds of stuff.  Plus, it’s good for you!

This is another ALDI product that shows the Parent Tested, Parent Approved Seal on the label.

Details From a the Label:

  • USDA Organic
  • excellent source of calcium
  • Good source of protein
  • 160 calories per 1 cup serving

Find it in the Dairy Case

Alright, that’s it, guys!  As usual, I hope you enjoyed this list and if there is any other product information you’d like me to include, just let me know.  I’ll be back next week with more favorite picks, this time featuring ALDI’s ; and next month for more organics!
