Message From Our Program Director

I want to thank you for taking a look at what the Sisters of Charity Hospital Family Medicine program has to offer. I want to share some of the unique aspects of our program that make us who we are.  The people in our program are our #1 asset.  Our team feels that if your passions, dreams and goals match up with ours then it is a “good fit.”  This creates a healthy learning environment and allows you to thrive while you continue your journey to become a compassionate, competent, family physician.

Sisters Hospital is a medium-sized community hospital in Western New York that has a long heritage of teaching. Our family medicine program has been around for 30+ years seeded with a deep osteopathic heritage. Sisters Hospital is #1 in the number of annual deliveries in Western New York for many years.  We are the only hospital that can care for both critically ill mother and baby in the same institution and have a brand new state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit.

Our Family Medicine program received ACGME Continued Accreditation without Outcomes Status in April 2020 and ACGME Osteopathic Recognition. This allows us to continue training residents in our community long into the future.  We continue to adapt and look for innovative and effective teaching and learning models.

We are surrounded by strong postgraduate training programs including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, podiatry, ENT, pastoral care and pharmacy. These programs complement the learning environment and allow the opportunity to work across multiple specialties. Sisters Hospital also has fellowships in vascular surgery and neuro critical care.  We are part of the Catholic Health System network which allows for exposure to strengths that the different hospitals have to offer.  Our program is also part of the University of Buffalo GMEC consortium which broadens the educational opportunities throughout Western New York.

We have dedicated core faculty that have a passion for teaching and training. The continuity of care clinic is housed in a private practice setting which is quite different than a traditional hospital clinic model.  Our goal is to promote continuity of care throughout your training years and beyond as you start your career. We promote global health awareness and encourage local and foreign mission trips.

Our residents are a very close and support each other. In addition to organized team building activities throughout the year, they choose to hang out together outside of medicine.  We strive to model and promote healthy work life balance.  Both attendings and residents are family oriented.

Buffalo is a medium-sized city in Western New York that is experiencing a resurgence which can be seen all around the region. As a young professional, it is a very affordable place to live as well as raise a family.  It offers a multitude of rich arts, culture, cuisine and activities.

As program director, it is my goal, for both medical students and residents, to provide a well-rounded and quality educational training environment that will be applicable throughout your career.   I encourage you to reach out to any of our current residents and find out why they chose Sisters Hospital Family Medicine residency program.
