Where can i purchase a powerball ticket

LANSING, MI -- As of Monday morning, more than 1.7 million Powerball tickets have been sold in Michigan ahead of Monday night’s world-record $1.9 billion drawing. Lottery officials expect that millions more will be purchased throughout the day as the anticipation continues to build for Nov. 7 drawing.

Many people are buying their tickets at the more than 10,500 lottery retail locations in Michigan, however some people may not be able to make it to their local gas stations, convenience store or restaurant today to buy tickets.

Have no fear, even if you’re unable to get to a store you can still get in on the action though the Michigan Lottery website by creating an account and buying your tickets online. For that reason we’ve compiled this quick guide to walk you through how to create an account, deposit money and buy your tickets.

Powerball drawings take place at 11 p.m. EST every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. In Michigan, you can purchase tickets for the drawing until 9:45 p.m.

First, you need to create an account by visiting the Michigan Lottery website and clicking “register” near the top of the page. From there you’ll enter your email address, name, birthdate, social security number and other information that the state will use to verify your age (players must be 18 or older) and identity. This also helps the Lottery contact you in case you win a large prize.

Once you’ve created your account, you can now deposit funds via credit/debit cards, paypal, online bank transfer and more. The minimum deposit is $10.

After the money is deposited in your account, you can search for the Powerball game and click on Powerball to start buying tickets. You can select your own set of special numbers or use the autofill option and a set of computer generated numbers will be selected for you.

You can choose to play several tickets at once or one ticket at a time, but keep in mind that you must purchase at least $6 worth of tickets in an online purchase. Tickets are $2 per set of numbers. Players select five white numbers that range from 1-69 and a single gold number between 1-26.

In order to win the jackpot, you must match all five white numbers and the red Powerball. However, players can also win prizes for matching as few as one white ball and the Powerball or you can win double your money back by just matching the Powerball. The more numbers you match, the larger your prize will be.

A full prize table can be found on the Michigan Lottery website.

You can also choose to add the Power Play and Double Play options, but those are not required add-ons. After you’ve decided on your tickets, add them to your cart, checkout and your tickets will be stored in your account.

That’s it! You’re done and the daydreaming can begin. And while the odds of you winning a jackpot prize are slim-to-none, if you do win a smaller amount, your winnings will be deposited right back into your Lottery account. If you win a prize that you’d like to withdraw from your account, there are several ways to do so and can be found in your newly created Michigan Lottery account.

While you can play the lottery in most states, only a handful sell Powerball tickets over the internet.

WASHINGTON — With a record-breaking prize on the line, many people who don't often play the lottery may consider throwing in a few bucks for their chance at $1.9 billion.

Monday's top prize is the largest in history for any U.S. lottery game after no one won the grand prize on Saturday. The cash option, which most people pick, currently stands at $929.1 million.

While Powerball tickets are sold in all but five states, buying tickets online is much more restrictive.

Can I buy Powerball tickets online?

Whether or not you're able to buy a Powerball ticket online depends on your location.

Currently, the lotteries in just nine states and the District of Columbia offer ways to purchase Powerball tickets online or through their lottery's mobile app. Those states include: Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

If you don't live in one of those states, you may not be out of luck completely.

Another option that's popped up in recent years is courier services, like Lotto.com and Jackpocket, which allow players to order lottery tickets via a mobile app or website. Those companies go and buy the ticket on the player's behalf from a licensed retailer in their state, then upload an image of it on the app and securely store the physical ticket.

But location is again key, because these courier services are not available everywhere.

Jackpocket, which operates in 13 states and Washington, D.C., has seen a big surge in orders as the Powerball climbed into record-breaking territory.

Peter Sullivan, Jackpocket's CEO and founder, said the company had the highest number of players and orders in its history for Wednesday's $1.2 billion Powerball drawing.

Those Wednesday orders included $1 million winners in New York and Colorado. According to Sullivan, with big wins like that Jackpocket transfers the physical ticket to the player in a secure fashion so that they may claim their prize directly from the state lottery.

Sullivan said they've had 22 players win prizes worth $1 million or more, including 9 from Powerball and 5 in Mega Millions.

Jackpocket is currently available in Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Washington, DC, and West Virginia.

Lotto.com, which also operates in Texas, Colorado, New Jersey and New York, said it's seen a 1,181% increase in Powerball tickets sold this month compared to last month as the jackpot surpassed $1 billion.

What time is the Powerball drawing?

The next drawing will take place on Monday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern (9:59 p.m. Central Time, 8:59 p.m. Mountain Time, 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time)

What days are the Powerball drawing?

Back in Aug. 2021, Powerball shifted to three drawings a week in an effort to build larger prizes and boost sales. The drawings currently happen every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

How late can you buy Powerball tickets?

The cut-off times for buying Powerball tickets vary by state. Usually, it's within one or two hours of the scheduled drawing. However, you should check with your local lottery. Tickets cost $2 per play.

Can I buy a US Powerball ticket online?

Powerball is played in 45 states and Washington, D.C. In select states, residents can purchase their tickets online. In some states, like Colorado, Powerball players can use Lotto.com, which purchases tickets and sends digital images to the player to confirm purchase.

What is the latest time to buy Powerball?

The Powerball jackpot is now estimated at $1.9 billion with a lump-sum cash option of $929.1 million for Monday's drawing at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the latest you can buy a ticket is 59 minutes before the drawing.

    Is Powerball sold in Hawaii?

That's because when one state adds a lottery, people often flood across state lines to buy tickets. The holdout state then has an incentive to keep the revenue from ticket purchases in its own state. Hawaii and Alaska, of course, don't have any US neighbors and don't face this problem.
