Im looking into getting an outlander XMR. Now i know this version is MEANT for the mud. But im not into going in mud holes. Just puddles, rivers, rocks and trail riding. I personally love the look of the xmrs and i want that one. Im stuck between if i should get a 650 or if the 570 will be good enough? im male about 180 pounds. and might sometimes have a friend on the back with me. i take it the 850 and 1000s are just ridiculous and not really needed for what im doing with it? i do like speed though..

XMR's are really not a great trail machine, while they do the job the aggressive tires rip things up, they seem to ride rough, and since they are a little taller they are a little more tippy in technical areas. Buy a machine that is going to best suit your riding style and area and not just for looks... Just my 2 cents

Both will be fine, but if you plan on having someone behind you often enough and since you like speed, then definitely go for the 650. The price difference is well worth the performance upgrade.

I have a non-XMR 650 Max and I'm very happy with it. My riding style is like yours. I don't do mudding. The 850 and 1000 definitely have more power, but I never felt I need more of that given my riding style.

Go with the 650. You won't regret it.

The 570 should be all anybody needs. The bigger and more powerful machines are for those that like BIGGER+POWERFUL, regardless of any practicable applications. Possible applications are wheelies and ostentatious displays of power in tossing back large chucks of grass and mud. YMMV.

I was thinking of just swapping the wheels out for more trail orientated wheels!

i think for the 1800$ difference youre right. I could get the 570 and possibly wish i went with the 650. then swap the aggressive tires out for better trail ones?

I have Maxxis Bighorn tires on mine and I like them a lot. Might stick with them again when they wear out or try the Kenda BearClaw HTRs.

First off, do not get an XMR if you’re doing basic trail riding (which includes creeks, moderate mud puddles, etc.). Second, If your dealer has a 650 and 570 in stock, ask to drive them both. I bet you will not be able to tell the difference. I couldn’t. So instead of going up to the 650 engine, I spent much less money to deck out my 570 Max with the XT package, skid plates, and heated grips. It still costs less than the 650 and much less than an XMR.

I recently brought my 570 to hunting camp and all my buddies were drooling over it. Most of them have Honda’s or Yamahas and my 570 will smoke their 700s and has better suspension than their older machines.

Purchase as many cc's as you can afford. Just be sure an xmr is what you really need! Suspension is not nearly as good as say as on an xt for trail riding, but the xmr will kick ass if riding through mud and deep holes. Choose your weapon.

I disagree, every time I drive my 570, I’m so thankful I didn’t throw more money at more CCs.... it’s plenty powerful for my trail riding needs.

Personally, I think the radiator being stuck over the front rack is ugly as hell. If you are going to bury it in mud it makes sense but otherwise it is useless.

Put an XTP again an XMR on a brisk trail ride and the XMR is left in the dust.

Everyone has different riding styles, trails they ride on and such and $. This is just my opinion when anyone questions cc's. We have 2 570's in our house... my xmr and my GF's camo 570, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with these machines, I'm just a personal hp junkie. Had I had the $ to purchase a 650, 850 or 1000 back in 2016, no question we both would have done so. If a 570 is all you need to fill your needs so be it.

Yup buy as much power as you can, going to 650 also gets you G2 chassis instead of G2L. Both great motors, but 650 definitely has more grunt, only guys that are gonna say get a 570 are guys that don't have 650s. When I had my 570 I really enjoyed it, but I always wish I would have gotten a 850. Like others have said be honest about your riding, if it's 80/20 trail/mud go with a XT. If it's gonna be 50/50 plenty of guys ride xmrs. Good luck

My wife and I have owned and trail rode Outlander 400, 650 and now own 2 800s. The 400's had plenty of power to carry 2 riders everywhere we ever rode and once took them to Siilverton. Co for riding. But we love riding our 800s.

You do realize that you can't see 'the look' while riding them, right?
